No one wants to admit it but theres one big way to fix failing grades and education in the US?

Parents need to give there kids a swift kick in the @ss....dont be afraid to show them your a parent not there friend.

I'm sorry to say but teachers - even the best d*mn teachers in the world - can only do so much.

Without the support of the parents, the chances of a kid doing well are drastically lower.

I went to a magnet school in inner city Detroit. This meant we had to apply to get into the school even though it was still a public school. Of the 120 of us who were accepted as freshmen, only about 60 of us actually graduated. The other 60 didn't do the work so they had to leave.

At our 20 year reunion, we realized that we all had something common back in school - parents who cared about our education. It was our parents who always went to parent/teacher conferences - and dragged us along for good measure. It didn't matter if our grades were OK or not, they would always ask the teacher to give us extra assignments or expect more out of us. It was our parents who were constantly pushing us to attend extra classes or programs and spent their weekends driving us all over the metropolitan area so we could attend them. They cared, so we learned to care too. Now, many of them have kids of their own and are doing the same thing for their kids that their parents did for them. They have to do this, because it's the only way their kids are going to learn that not only is an education an important job, but that no one is going to take responsibility for your education but YOU.

If every parent was as dedicated to making sure their child got the best education available, we wouldn't have situations where states like California are dismissing thousands of teachers as a budget-cutting measure. We wouldn't have chronically inept school boards, or administrators or teachers. We wouldn't need to have no-child-left-behind bubble-coloring activities (I can't really call them "tests"). Not only would these things not be tolerated, but those who fail to come up with alternatives to fix the problems would find themselves without a job come the next election.
