I am installing a 5-piece surround shower and have some questions?
1) The panels come with a "lip curved "at the top so they can" hook "over the existing tile, or are they flat? 2) When the panels meet the bath agreement is clear caulking to seal this edge, or is there a better method? 3) The existing shower wall has an old brass plated, recessed soap that will have to leave. Once I pull it out, I need to plug the hole or just the lid on around them? 4) Once installed, which is the best cleaner to keep surround the clean? I know that the comet would it be zero. This work is to cover some really ugly, but VERY study tiles as the 60s. There are no leaks in the tile, or cracks. I just want to cover this hideous color. The tank is in excellent shape. Any other advice, thoughts or tips you might have would be appreciated. We sell the house in a year and I want to do the job right the first time.
1. No, the panels are normally always flat. Trim will be necessary, but not necessary. 2. Never use regular caulk. Use only 100% silicon sealant here. It has not need to be painted. Some come with chemicals to block the growth of mold as well. 3. You do not need to plug the hole, if it is small and will not create a flex point that will weaken the panel. 4. Units usually have cleaning instructions that accompany them. Follow these instructions, but Never use an abrasive to smooth surfaces. This work may be harder than it looks. Cutting holes for a shower and tub faucet, obtain the flat sides, keeping it square in the corners, etc. Take your time and use the right tool for the various positions and you can make it work.
