How can Copper Beach trees survive w/ no green?
Plants need the green chlorophil in the their leaves in order to make sugars to survive. But copper beach trees are redish and only have green where the sun doesn't go. It doesn't make sense how they're alive!
Their leaves DO contain chlorophyll. But there are many other pigments. Leaves which are red all year round contain high amounts of carotenoids, which mask the colour of the chlorophyll, so that your eyes can't see that it's there. It's like you get a jug and put a little orange juice in and a load of purple grape juice. You wouldn't be able to see the orange juice, but it's still there!
