How do I dye a dark horse blue?
I have lots of experience with "coloring" horses, but never a dark one--I always used greys and whites.
I have a grullo gelding who I need to dye blue for a costume contest. I need the coloring the be, obviously, horse safe but also preferably not damaging to the saddle or pad (I intend to avoid coloring those areas if possible, but better safe than sorry.) I'd like it to be safe for his body plus mane and tail, to be able to last for at least 30 to 45 minutes without running and to come off in 1 to 2 washings.
Yeah, I know. I'm asking a lot. But does anyone have any ideas or expierence...?

Get some of this at the grocery store. Wash him with it. It will be completely safe for him (even if he gets some in his mouth).
I would avoid using any saddle or pad that is valuable. If anything I would ride bareback and wear some old jeans that you don't like.
