How long are postal stamps valid?
With a very few exceptions (such as postage due or special delivery stamps), any not-previously-used U.S. postage stamp issued since 1861 is still valid for postage, as long as the combined value pays the current rate for the service you are using. So you could use a nice unused 1869 2c stamp along with a leftover 2005 37c stamp to mail a letter - you'd be crazy to do it, but it would be legal!
I just bought a bunch of 13c stamps issued in 1977 (to use three at a time to pay the 39c rate) from a stamp dealer for less than face value!
