Can someone tell me what's inherently communist about communal farms if it's voluntary?
I asked a question the other day about trying this instead of food stamps but I deleted it because conservatives made me realize it was a stupid idea because of human nature. But if a communal farm is set up by using government owned land or purchasing land and the program is completely voluntary how is that communist? Is this just because it has the word communal in it? Because by that definition communities would be communist. Or is it because of the it's history of being used by communist conutries? Because Israel has a voluntary communal farm program and the US has had had several cooperative farming operations that later privatized. Can someone explain this to me?
I know, that's why I saw the error of my ways and realized this would never work.
It depends on who owns the farm, who owns the land the farm is on, who controls what and how the farm grows, who controls who the farm sells to, and who controls the path of the money.
Whether it is voluntary or not makes no difference. Communism is all about ownership or more accurately lack of private ownership. Now it's normally applied to the system of an entire country rather than smaller programs, but anything in which the property and output/money is controlled by government would resemble Communism.
In contrast, if only the things relating to money were controlled by government and the property were owned by a farmer then it's not Communism but rather more like Socialism.
And if the farmer owns the land and manages their own financial choices (who to sell to, how much to sell, what to grow, how much to sell it for, etc.) then it resemble Capitalism.
