how to make a ribbon organizer out of an existing bookshelf?

hello. i have a white bookshelf that has 4 shelves and i am trying to figure out how to make it into a ribbon orgainzer. i found a picture on google that is exactly what i am trying to make. http://starlitstudio.typepad.com/starlitstudio/images/2008/09/21/ribbon_house.jpg
i fell n love with this image because i have ribbon fetish and just need something a little more neat, the only question is i need the cylinder poles that hold the spools to be removable. i plan on having 3 to 4 poles per section so that would be a total of 12 to 16 horizontal rows all together. anyone have tips?

Make something that looks like a big paper towel holder that fits into each shelf so you can remove them to replace the ribbon and you won't have to drill holes in your cabinet. Get some boards or plywood that is the same size as the height and depth of your shelves. Drill a hole in the centers that will fit a 3/4 or 1" dowel and maybe a smaller one near the front of each like the picture shows. You can screw each of the bookend pieces to the insides of your cabinet or make a back for them to keep them flush to the sides. Buy the dowels at a home center or hardware store and cut them so they're a little shorter than the width of each shelf so they don't bind or rub when being pulled in and out.
