Rose isn't getting reinstated.

Even if he were -- what team would want him as manager? He wasn't all that good 20 years ago, largely favoring faded veterans over young talent (including himself), wasn't good at managing a pitching staff, and it's hard to imagine that he's gotten better at any of those things while on the distant sidelines for a couple of decades.

I think the Hall is far less important than reinstatement. I don't really care if Rose ever gets honored or not, but by damn he should never be reinstated. He has proven himself untrustworthy, and unless and until he redresses that considerable issue, he can stay in Vegas and continue moldering away.

I don't understand why so many fans seem incapable of distinguishing between Rose's situation and Jackson's situation, which are based upon very different contraventions of the rules. I DO understand why everyone converges on Jackson, though that is a strategic mistake, because if any of the Black Sox have a valid argument for exoneration, it's Weaver. But, go ahead and keep on trumpeting Jackson, because it'll never make any difference.

Bad decisions can have bad and lasting consequences.
