How can you best remove the tape residue from wooden and rubber oars?
I've been rowing for 2 years now and can't seem to stop my hands from developing really really bad hand blisters. So to remedy this annoying problem, I've been taping the important parts of my hand. Problem is, the sticky part of the tape gets stuck on the oar, spreads over it, and makes it even more likely that I would hold my oar incorrectly (being even stickier)!
So, how can I best remove the sticky tape from my rubber oar after rowing? Removing for wooden oars too?
Get a little bottle of "Goo Gone" (most grocery stores have it in the laundry department.) It will dissolve most sticky tape adhesives. Test a little on the rubber first (it won't hurt wood at all).
Why don't you try wearing paddling gloves? I've had a pair of NRS fingerless gloves (kind of look like bicycling gloves with a synthetic suede palm and lycra back.) Sure have kept me from blisters while kayaking for the past 8 years and they make for a secure grip even when wet. I just throw them in the wash afterwards and let them dry naturally (no dryer heat). You can pick them up at kayak outfitter shops.
