How many school days can a six year old miss before the state gets involved?
I just found out that my ex wife had my daughter out of kindergarten 50 days last year causing her to fail kindergarten. Our daughter is already behind.... she needs to attend every day of school possible. I thought that if you miss so many days of school your parents got fined so much money? Isn't that kind of neglect allowing your daughter to miss that many days of school?
This was last year... so i dont know what if anything I can do about it now. I'm using this to try to get custody of her. She has asthma and has had a long medical past, but she's healthy now and is almost never sick while in my care. Her mom called her in sick each of these 50 days and uses the asthma as an excuse... she has about 2 attacks a month with me and we're pretty active. I hope and pray that this information will serve me in protecting my daughter from being held back again... Thank you for all your help and I appreciate any additional advice
Each state is different. My son has asthma and after he's missed 12 days in a school year the school has sent us a letter expressing their concern. But he hasn't failed any grades because of excessive absences. Contact the school to see their policy, and your state's department of education to see if there is a state policy. I doubt if there will be any kind of fine.
