Wow, Lonely, that really depends on an individual's schedule and preference, but I'll tell you what we do at my house.

Thanksgiving is always the fourth Thursday in November, so it's hard to give specific dates. Because our kids are out of school after Thanksgiving, we set up an artificial Christmas tree on the day after Thanksgiving (Friday) and they decorate it. On Saturday we set up the outdoor lights.

We usually take the tree and the lights down the Saturday following New Year's Day.

Some years we get a small real tree as well. We wait until 2 or 3 days before Christmas to get one of those, because by then the Christmas tree lots just want to get rid of them, and we can get a beautiful $40 or $50 tree for about 6 bucks. Since it's been outside all that time, it's still fresh and smells great. (A real tree that has been indoors for a month can get pretty dry, even when it's kept in water.) We also take the real tree down on the Saturday after New Year's Day.
