Should I bother getting silver tray repaired to sell?
I have a "heavy" silver tray. (it's marked as 1847 Rogers bros, along with additional stamping) and it was very turned. I'm almost done cleaning it and have uncovered that it has quite a few pock marks and a few scratches. It's ornate but at the same time, fairly simple with handles.
My question is.. what is the market like? Will they want it for the silver only? or the tray or the tray because of use/abuse/age? I'm not sure how to proceed with this try. I've become quite fond of this tray and am even thinking of keeping it to put it into use.
What would be your knowledgeable advice?
Have a jewelry rub out the marks, or just clean it and do whatever with it? Or what?

I have no idea how to find out if that is a big name or not... to prove if I should repair it or not.
If it is sold sterling, your tray would be worth a fortune. Nearly all are silver plate due to price and weight. You can go over to Ebay and check out prices and make a decision. If you are going to keep it and use it, I'd look into having it worked on. But I wouldn't put much into it. Re-silvering it might actually reduce the price, but buffing out spots, that might not be bad.
