I have a 1000 light Christmas light set- can I use a dimmer to lessen the brightness?
I have a tree with 1000 christmas lights and I need not say they are bright. I am in search of a dimmer that plugs into a wall socket that can handle the wattage. If anyone knowns of one can you help.
Just do a search for a lamp dimmer. One source is listed below. I have built my own using a regular light dimmer and mounting it in an electrical box, but you need to know what you are doing. You should be able to find something at a decent electrical or hardware store.
You do need to know how many watts you are dimming. While christmas light sets don't take very much electricity, you have the equivalent of ten, 100 light strings. That's a lot of lights, even for small wattage christmas lights. If you still have the box they came in, see if it gives any watt rating for them.
