Why is Z used to denote the set of integers?

The set of natural numbers is denoted by N, rational numbers numbers are denoted by Q (for 'quotients') and R is used to denote the set of real numbers. Why is Z used to denote the set of integers?

I think that it relates to the german word for number:

Zahlen
